Very early 1968MY 911S with a production completion date of 15th August 1967. German market model sold via Porsche/VW dealer Autohaus Krauss in Nürnberg, with Kardex confirming delivery to its first home-market customer on 5th September 1967.
After spending it's early years in Germany with it's first owner, it was exported to the USA in the late-'70s and then taken off the road in 1988 after 57,543 miles for some repair work that was unfortunately never completed. It was then re-discovered some 30 years later and brought back to the UK by MCE Porsche to undergo full restoration to it's former glory. An absolute time capsule, it retains many rare early '68MY features such as the sought after, stronger, 2.0S aluminium engine crankcase, elephant hide leatherette interior and the one-year-only 5.5Jx 15" forged Fuchs wheels.
The SWB 911S is a very special car, and for the '68 model-year was available only in Europe, with just 1,267 'S' coupes produced. The new 160-horsepower 'S' variant, introduced the previous year, was the flagship model in the growing 911 range and featured a higher-compression (9.8:1) engine with larger valves, forged light-alloy pistons on forged and nitrided connecting rods, revised camshafts and exhaust system, and a pair of Weber 40mm triple-throat 'IDS' downdraft carburettors. The model also pioneered the revolutionary Fuchs lightweight forged alloy wheels, and added Koni shock absorbers, ventilated brake discs, a larger-diameter front anti-roll bar and a new rear anti-roll bar, all combined to create the sportiest road-going 911 available at the time. Capable of 140 mph, this new 911S would become the benchmark for precision-built, well-equipped sports cars, and the 'S' remained the flagship model of the 911 range until the debut of the 2.7RS in 1973.
On completion, the car will be offered with a comprehensive history file detailing the restoration journey and will be UK V5 road registered with a full MOT to mark the start of a new life on the road again.
