Located centrally in the UK, a short distance from Silverstone race circuit and Junction 11 of the M40, on the Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire border, MCE is based in the Cotswold-Stone village of Middleton Cheney near Banbury. The site has been converted from a former blacksmith’s forge, initially constructed in 1820 to serve the transportation needs of the time, and since then it has always been a mixture of residential dwelling and active stables, before falling into disrepair through the 1970’s and ‘80’s. We purchased the site in 2004 and have been rebuilding it ever since, with nearly all of the renovation, construction and landscaping work being done by our own hands. Initially focused on modernising the house to make for a comfortable home first, then converting the stables into 1000 sq ft of workshop space for vehicle restoration and maintenance work. The original anvil and forge may have had to make room for much more modern tooling, but we have tried to preserve the look and feel of the original blacksmith’s forge construction wherever possible.
